Horns Quickly Ease Signing Day Disappointment

While the Texas football team pulled in their usual strong recruiting class again this year, the 2008 class might be remembered for the one that got away. In was has been (and is still developing) into a big soap opera, California RB Darrell Scott chose to play ball for Colorado over Texas, under seemingly "interesting" circumstances.

But the Longhorn staff did not sit and mope about the 5-star they lost, they went out and got the first class of 2009 verbal commitment from 5-star QB, Lake Travis product, Garrett Gilbert. Gilbert lead Lake Travis to the state championship as a junior, is the top QB in the state and listed as the 12th overall prospect in the nation by rivals.com.

Texas hopes this will kick off a huge recruiting year for the Horns. Here are a few other prospects Texas will be hoping to land for the 2009 class:

DT Jamarkus McFarland
ATH Russell Shepard
OT Mason Walters
WR Emory Blake
DB Kevin Brent
OT Thomas Ashcraft
RB Chris Whaley
WR Greg Timmons
DE Michael Brockers
DE Alex Okafor
